We also travel for larger residential projects throughout greater Melbourne. Contact us with your address and we'll confirm coverage — chances are we can help you out. Whether you're in the south-eastern suburbs or the wider metropolitan area, we aim to provide reliable, professional electrical service to all our local Victorian clients.

Question 2

Are Ziggy Electrical & Data licensed and insured?

Accepted Answer

Yes, absolutely. Ziggy Electrical & Data is a fully licensed and registered electrical contractor with full public liability insurance and compliance certification. All of our electricians hold current Victorian electrical licences and we work to strict industry standards for quality, safety, and professionalism. You can rest easy knowing you're dealing with a legitimate operation — no cowboys, no shortcuts, just proper tradies doing things right every single time. We are happy to provide certificates of compliance and insurance upon request to ensure your peace of mind throughout the duration of your project.

Question 3

Do you provide compliance certificates?

Accepted Answer

Yes, for all notifiable electrical work we provide a Certificate of Electrical Safety as required by Victorian regulations. This certifies that the work has been done by a licensed electrician, tested, and meets all current safety standards. This is important documentation for your records, your home insurance, and any future property sale. We lodge the necessary paperwork with Energy Safe Victoria on your behalf. Keeping your electrical work certified and documented protects you and ensures everything is safe, legal, and traceable for years to come.

Question 4

Do you provide free quotes?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we offer free, no-obligation quotations for all residential electrical projects across Melbourne. Simply fill out our quote form on this website, call Ziggy directly on 0481 312 305, or shoot us an email to arrange a convenient time for an on-site assessment. We'll assess the job properly, discuss your options face-to-face, then email you a detailed written quote within 24-48 hours. No pressure sales tactics ever. We believe in transparency, so our quotes are fixed-price, meaning what you see is what you pay, with absolutely no hidden surprises at the end.

Question 5

How long does a typical electrical project take?

Accepted Answer

Project timelines vary depending on size and scope, but here's a realistic breakdown: installing a few power points or lights typically takes a few hours; a switchboard upgrade runs about half a day; a full home rewire can take several days depending on the size of the property. We always provide a clear timeline in your written quote upfront, and we stick to it because we know you've got plans and deadlines of your own to manage. Our team works efficiently without rushing, ensuring that we hit our milestones while maintaining the high-quality, safe work we are known for.

Question 6

Do you install smoke alarms and safety switches?

Accepted Answer

Yes, smoke alarm installation and safety switch upgrades are a core part of what we do. We install mains-powered, interconnected smoke alarms that meet current Victorian Building Authority regulations, ensuring your family is protected and your home is compliant. We also upgrade old switchboards with modern safety switches (RCDs) that protect against electric shock and reduce fire risk. These are relatively quick jobs that make a massive difference to your home's safety. We'll advise you on exactly what your property needs to meet current standards and keep your family safe.

Question 7

What brands and materials do you use?

Accepted Answer

We use only quality, compliant electrical products from reputable brands including Clipsal, Hager, NHP, Schneider, and CAT6 data cabling components. For lighting we work with trusted brands like SAL, Brilliant, and Brightgreen LEDs. We can recommend the ideal products for your particular needs, whether that's energy efficiency, durability, or smart home integration. We buy from reputable suppliers at trade prices and pass those savings on to you without compromising on quality whatsoever. By using high-quality products, we ensure that your home is safe and your electrical work remains reliable for years to come.

Question 8

Can you install EV chargers at home?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. We install home EV charging stations for all major electric vehicle brands, including Tesla, BYD, Hyundai, BMW and more. We assess your switchboard capacity, run dedicated cabling, and install a certified charger safely and neatly. Many homes need a switchboard upgrade or dedicated circuit to handle the extra load, which we'll identify during your free quote. We ensure everything is certified and compliant, so you can charge your EV safely and quickly at home without worrying about overloading your electrical system.

Question 9

Do you do data cabling and NBN connections?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we're fully certified for data and network cabling. We install structured data cabling, NBN connection points, and network outlets throughout your home for fast, reliable internet. Whether you need extra data points for a home office, a patch panel for whole-house networking, or better Wi-Fi distribution, we can set it up cleanly and professionally. We use quality cabling and components to ensure your network performs reliably. Good data cabling is often the difference between a fast, stable connection and constant dropouts.

Question 10

How much does electrical work cost in Melbourne?

Accepted Answer

Electrical costs genuinely vary based on multiple factors including the type of work, accessibility, materials required, and whether any switchboard upgrades are needed. As a realistic guide, installing a power point typically ranges from $120 to $250, a downlight install from $80 to $150 per fitting, and a switchboard upgrade from $800 to $2,500 depending on complexity. We provide fully itemised, fixed-price quotes with zero hidden costs so you know exactly what you're paying for before we even start. This allows you to budget effectively and understand the value we provide in every job.

Question 11

What payment methods do you accept and when is payment due?

Accepted Answer

We keep payment straightforward and fair. We accept bank transfer, credit card, and cash for convenience. For most residential jobs we request a deposit to secure your booking date and lock in materials, then the balance is due upon satisfactory completion and final safety check together. For larger projects we can discuss staged payment milestones aligned with project phases. We provide proper tax invoices for everything and never ask for full payment upfront before any work begins — that's just not how we operate. Our payment structure is designed to be transparent and build trust between us and our valued Melbourne clients.

Question 12

Can you help with switchboard upgrades and old fuse boxes?

Accepted Answer

Yes, switchboard upgrades are one of our most common jobs. Old ceramic fuse boxes are a safety hazard — they don't protect against electric shock and are a leading cause of house fires. We replace them with modern switchboards featuring safety switches (RCDs), circuit breakers, and proper surge protection. The process involves assessing your current load requirements, installing the new switchboard, migrating circuits across safely, testing everything, and issuing a compliance certificate. It's a straightforward upgrade that dramatically improves your home's safety and brings it up to current standards.

Question 13

Do you offer emergency or after-hours electrical work?

Accepted Answer

We understand that electrical issues don't always happen during business hours. While we focus primarily on scheduled residential work, we do our best to accommodate urgent situations where there's a safety risk, such as loss of power, sparking, or burning smells. If you have an emergency, call us directly on 0481 312 305 and we'll advise on the best course of action. For life-threatening emergencies or fires, always call 000 first. For planned work, we can schedule evenings or weekends by arrangement to suit your availability.
